Barking Riverside is one of the major regeneration sites for the Thames Gateway. Built by the LCC during the 1920s and early 1930s, the estate was once the largest of its kind in Europe, with over 25,000 houses. Dating from 11/12C and standing on oldest site of Christian worship in London (3C). Inside is much 17C ornamentation and outstanding 6C Altar Stone, reputed to have belonged to St Augustine. Surrounding Churchyard, containing tombs of Sir John Soane, Mary Wollstonecraft and others, has been extensively restored and recently refurbished. 12C. NB. Sun 9.30am service.

'Croydanisation - A Tale of Regeneration in London's Third City' is a photographic installation by artist Corinne Silva, exploring regeneration in Croydon Town Centre from the 1890s, through the period of major development of the 1960s and 70s, to town planners' and architects' proposed visions for the future. The scheme involved the refurbishment and redevelopment of two existing derelict Victorian warehouse buildings. Many of the young people who would be using it were involved in the design which features a graffiti-wall, made by the users themselves. It comprises a variety of flexible spaces that provide for the wide range of facilities that the centre provides. Winner of the RICS London Project of the Year 2008. Gavin Leonard 2007.

This radical renovation of a 1950s office building transforms the site into an important new urban amenity. The scheme enhances activity and interest at street level by offering an enriched mix of uses and introducing a substantial new public space to the streetscape. Three glass infills or 'masks' span the voids between existing blocks to create a new facade for the building, with the central glazed section enclosing a seven-storey atrium which is open to the public. make 2007.

Grade I listed church gifted to the people of Mayfair by the first Duke of Westminster. Rare survival of J.P. Gandy-Deering (1787-1850) in Greek Revival style 1828 with splendid temple-like narthex - 'a building of virtually unique quality' with one of the finest facades in London, remodelled Sir Arthur Blomfield 1878 including stunning timber roof. Now under threat of development as spa. Includes fine memorial chapel with beautiful stained glass commemorating those killed during WW1. NB. Sun 10.30am service.
