Green Sky Studios was a free event showcasing innovation in sustainable design from Wed 24 to Fri 26 September 2008. The participating architects and their studios are listed below, where you will also find overviews of the events that took place and the issues around sustainability highlighted by each studio.

For the duration of Green Sky Studios, 4M’s space has been transformed into a platform for networking, exchange of ideas and material experimentation. Over the course of three days, examples of generative solutions will be exhibited and debated. 4M Works will preview its ‘MUD’ installation as the subject of a series of debates. Presentation of the LifE Project (Long term Initiatives for Flood-risk Environments), a major research project which tackles one of the most visible effects of climate change – rising water levels and increased flood risk. The LifE Guide offers guidance on how to combine zero carbon architecture with natural ecological management of flood risk. The event provides an opportunity to debate the proposed solutions and preview the guide in advance of its launch in November.

Talk on Bubny masterplan, Prague: everything from renewable energies to a sustainable infrastructure play a part in this 27 hectare masterplan for the centre of Prague. Designed with the help of parametric modelling used to analyse environmental aspects of the individual buildings, site as a whole and its context. Sustainable Futures Award showcase also on display.

Justin Bere opens his own ecological house/architectural office. The morning session consists of: (1) An hour long tour of the premises demonstrating a broad ecological approach with time for q & a. People will be free to leave after this module; (2) A more technical presentation/seminar on Passivhaus design techniques and the emerging European low energy design standard, including an insight into using the Passivhaus Planning Package (PHPP) and static thermal imaging software; (3) An organic lunch with the team.
