Volunteering

The role of volunteers is pivotal to our organisation and for over 10 years we have been running a highly successful Volunteer Programme involving hundreds of professionals drawn from a range of sectors. There are two ways to provide volunteer help to Open House, either on an individual basis or as part of a company sponsored contribution.

Through our Volunteer Programme we aim to:

  • develop skills and expertise
  • cultivate high quality manpower to deliver programmes
  • provide opportunities for interaction with our broad audiences
  • encourage a wider interest in London's rich architectural landscape

Making a difference to Open House:
Both individuals and organisations joining our Volunteer Programme can do this in the following ways

  • providing Open House with essential external resources to enable capacity building into the future
  • injecting new skills and experience into our organisation
  • helping us make our initiatives and events happen

Individual Volunteers
We have a team of volunteers who help out throughout the year in the office and are core to our work. There are also hundreds of volunteers that assist during the Open House London annual Event by offering a half day to act as guides or stewards; stewards for the Junior Open House scheme for school classes, plus other occasional education projects.

Open House making a difference to individuals:

  • personal accomplishment/satisfaction
  • direct interaction with audiences
  • enhanced communication skills/professional skills
  • learning about and experiencing the architecture in the Capital first-hand, and being able to pass this learning on to our audiences thereby enriching their experience.

If you are interested in office-based work please email us, providing a CV and details of your expected availability.

Company Volunteer Scheme
Companys can offer direct practical involvement in a voluntary capacity.

Companies and individuals can personally make a difference with Open House through secondments or hands-on involvement in the delivery of projects, or as a facilitator at an educational workshop. There are many opportunities during office hours and beyond.

Open House making a difference to your organisation:

  • a rewarding personal development tool which will bring valuable knowledge and skills that can be fed back into the core work of your organisation
  • involvement in creative projects that are both fun and enriching for all participants
  • acknowledgement of your support on materials relating to specific projects, the annual review and through the Open House website

We take a practical and flexible approach to our Company Volunteer Scheme which accommodates different levels of commitment. If you would like more details please contact Julie Leonard, 020 7383 0782
